Ireland

With her motorbike loaded with the bear essentials, Jo Sinnott begins her 3,000 mile Wild Camping adventure across Europe.

She heads to a writers retreat on the Beara Peninsuala where she explores the stunning coastline with the help of some local poets and her first night’s camping is beside a waterfall with just an otter to keep her company. Riding on to the Ring of Kerry, Jo swaps her bike for a kayak to take in the Lake of Killarney.

Dingle is next on the map where Jo steps into the world of 1970 Oscar winning film, Ryan’s Daughter. Film festival organiser Maurice Galway talks about the film’s influence on the area and organises for Jo to meet with Tom Fitzgerald, ex-Irish Senator and Robert Mitchum’s body double in the film. Jo braves the elements and camps out in the grounds of the old school house built for the set of the movie.

It’s time to move on, but Jo manages to squeeze in quick boat trip to spot the infamous Dingle Dolphin, who dutifully comes out to say hello. Next stop, stunning Connemara where Jo puts her hiking boots on and joins a walking tour in Leenane before heading west for a flutter at Punchestown Racecourse.
