Fun adventure holiday destinations
From skiing down the Alps to scuba diving in the Mediterranean Sea, Europe has something to offer everybody when it comes to an action packed holiday to suit a range of activities and budgets.
No matter what your idea of a fun-filled adventure involves, whether it’s snowboarding or diving in to explore exotic coastal waters, you’ll find a variety of options available in a number of exciting European locations.
Skiing holidays in the Alps and Pyrenees
Some of the most popular skiing destinations in Europe include Austria, France, Switzerland and Italy because these countries have access to many great mountain ranges such as the Alps or the Pyrenees. If you’re looking for a holiday in the snow, then the Alps is an ideal location as it’s perfect for those looking to get involved in skiing, snowboarding, trekking or hiking.
The Alps is one of Europe’s greatest mountain ranges which stretch through many countries including Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, France and the Principality of Monaco.
As Europe’s premier skiing destination, the Alps can get very busy, but there are hundreds of ski resorts to choose from, so you should be able to find one that’s right for you. The popularity of these resorts is usually seasonal, with winter being the most popular for skiing as this is when the snow is at its thickest.
The Pyrenees by contrast, is less crowded than the Alps, and it can be less expensive to stay here than in the French Alpine resorts. The Pyrenees mountains border France and Spain and are equally popular for winter sports.
If you come here during the summer months, you may even see a number of athletes doing high-altitude training. While the Pyrenees may not be as breath-taking as the Alps due to the absence of lakes, it’s definitely worth a look if you want a winter holiday which strays from the beaten track.
Scuba diving in the Mediterranean
If you love scuba diving, you don’t have to go the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia to experience the dive of a lifetime. The Mediterranean Sea has a number of hidden treasures worth exploring. Kas, off the coast of Turkey is one such place. Scuba divers who delve into Kas’s waters will find a number of unusual shore formations, large caves, canyons, rocky reefs and ancient and modern wrecks.
Divers report that the clear waters in Kas make for high visibility, compared to other places in the Mediterranean and that its waters are one of the cleanest places to go scuba diving as there is no industrial activity, or pollutants.
Lebanon offers a coast of outstanding beauty and a number of treasures beneath its waters just waiting to be discovered. The Lebanese waters have a number of World War II wrecks to explore including the Souffleur, a French Vichy submarine as well as Roman and Phoenician ruins off the coast of Saida, for those interested in exploring Lebanese history.
