1 On the Edge
Winter bears down on Alaskans who are making last-minute preparations for the return of the freeze. In Noorvik, the Hailstones develop newly inherited land. In Nenana, moose hunting season is running out on Jessie Holmes.
2 Pride and Power
Alaskans work tirelessly to prepare themselves for the upcoming brutal weather. Chip constructs a mobile tent frame for his family to use at their newly inherited lands. A power outage in Kavik leaves Sue scrambling to restore it.
3 Falling Apart
Winter planning begins to fall apart as Alaskan prepare for the big freeze. The Hailstones set out to hunt for caribou, but they may have missed their chance. Sue fills 48 barrels of fuel for winter while struggling to maintain her Bobcat.
4 Deadly Tracks
With the freeze underway, Alaskans must scramble to secure their livelihoods. Chip and Carol plan to take advantage of the newly flourishing rabbit population while Jessie breaks trail in order to prep his dog team for an upcoming race.
5 Breaking Through
The Arctic's late freeze presents unique challenges for Alaskans as they attempt to gather food and resources for survival.
Alaskans struggle to get through the everyday grind as another dark winter looms. Sue secures camp with a blizzard coming. Chip performs routine maintenance on his snow machine to prepare for winter travel.
7 Ghosts of Winter
The imminent onset of winter forces Alaskans to tackle various obstacles to ensure a prosperous season. Andy hunts in order to replenish his meat supply. Sue confronts her greatest fear head-on.
8 No Boundaries
In the dead of winter, Alaskans travel high, far, and wide to obtain resources for survival. Glenn pursues caribou in the mountains, Chip and Agnes haul their tent frame on the frozen river, and Andy breaks a new trail through the woods.
9 Trapped and Hunted
Alaskans must trap and hunt for essential food and fur to survive dark winter. Sue hunts for caribou and ptarmigan, the Hailstones travel to Emonokrov to jig for fish under the ice, and Andy sets traps in the woods in the hope of catching fur.
10 Winter Kill
Alaskans pursue scarce resources in anticipation of the coming spring. Chip and Agnes set up camp for future resource gathering, Andy's trip to his woodpile doesn't go as planned, while Glenn hunts for caribou along the lake.
On the cusp of springtime, Alaskans encounter unexpected roadblocks in their struggle for survival. Sue gets stuck out on the tundra, Chip and Agnes set out on a coveted hunt for musk ox and Glenn injures his foot, traveling in deep snow.
12 No Shortcuts
As winter comes to a close, there are no shortcuts for Alaskans as they wrap up the long season. Sue waits for her loader to arrive, Glenn hikes up a mountain to build a snow cave and Andy repairs his wind turbine.
13 The Thaw - Confrontation
With seasons changing, Alaskans hunt and explore various pathways through the wilderness before spring breakup fully arrives. Sue tracks and hunts an apex predator and Andy sets traps for beavers on the still frozen Yukon River.
14 The Thaw - Blindsided
As the snow melts and the ice on the waterways breaks up, the Arctic becomes a land of opportunity. The Hailstones hunt for springtime waterfowl, Sue reopens her greenhouse and Glenn completes his 40-mile trek to get to Brooks Range.
15 The Thaw - River of Rage
Alaskans face tremendous obstacles as spring breakup is in full swing. Chip and Agnes go on a hunt for needed caribou. The Yukon River begins to breakup, threatening Andy’s camp. Glenn is able to search for previously unattainable food.
16 The Thaw - Head Above Water
As the rivers melt and waters rise, Alaskans try to stay ahead of the changing landscape. Sue must fix her loader in order to repair the water damage, Andy learns a new skill, and the Hailstones move their camp to higher ground.
