THE THRILLSEEKERS GUIDE
Episode 1:
Crested Butte, Colorado USA - we kick off with a destination report on this American ski resort and a look at the sport of telemarking as two adventurers take us into the Colorado back-country.
Ireland – there’s also a tour of the southwest corner of Ireland taking in windsurfing, surfing, white water rafting, kayaking, hill walking and what to do to chill out and take in some Celtic culture.
Russia - two pro surfers travel across Russia to a remote peninsula and use helicopters and 6-wheel drive vehicles to access isolated beaches and points to find waves that have never been surfed before.
Episode 2:
Norway - the Lofoten islands off the north west coast of Norway, 250 miles inside the Arctic Circle, are rich in Viking culture and home to an ex-whaling community, while the the mountains, fjords and rivers are a playground for canoeing, fishing and back-country skiing.
Brazil – we visit a nature reserve that highlights the plight of the Amazon rainforests for tourists, and touch base with a group of young Aussie pro surfers as they come to town for a gruelling leg of the World Qualifying Series.
The Canary Islands - we set sail to seek out the perfect tapas and cerveza combination, as well as look at the astounding volcanic landscape of these relatively recent geological creations.
Episode 3:
Australia – we go sky diving over the vast Aussie outback and take in some of the natural wonders of this huge continent – Ayers Rock and the immense salt plains of the Great Australian Basin before travelling to the coast and the laid back beatnik scene at Byron Bay.
England – The South West Coast Path in Cornwall and Devon is our destinations as we go coasteering, sea kayaking and trekking in one of England’s areas of outstanding natural beauty.
Les Diablerets – we go heli-skiing and glacier hiking on one of Switzerland’s highest Alpine peaks.
Episode 4:
New Zealand - Queenstown is a thrill seeker’s mecca for good reason; there are so many activities on offer from abseiling, heli-skiing, and rock climbing to white water rafting. It can get hectic so we also take time out and enjoy a heli-trip over the fjords and mountains.
Portugal – We explore the Algarve, one of Euope’s top surfing destinations, famous for its long sandy Atlantic beaches and also some of the world’s top golf courses.
Episode 5:
French Alps - the Alps are famous for their superb pistes, which we sample at the resort of Les Arcs. But it’s not all about keeping two skis on the ground as we also go paragliding on skis and float above the mountains.
Wales – caving might make you feel temporarily cramped but in reality it is a mind-freeing experience, and the Brecon Beacons include some of the British Isles’ best underground caverns and water features. Above ground, the area also boasts some brilliant single-track and cross-country mountain biking trails.
Finland – is it all reindeer, snow caves and Santa-land? Finland has an unique landscape of tundra and lakes and is an insanely good location for adventuring, everything from ice climbing, and frozen lake fishing to snowboarding, all to be discovered in this wintry yet stunning landscape.
Episode 6:
Scotland – the Highlands are not only the backdrop for the movie BRAVEHEART, they’re also a great landscape for adventure. Here, you can take part in gorge diving, camping and a spot of orienteering.
Russian Mountains – we look at helicopter rides in the Caucasus Mountains.
Fuerteventura – We explore the Canary Island of Fuerteventura.
Episode 7:
New Zealand – In this episode we’re in the Southern Alps for a mountaineering trip up Mount Aspiring, one of NZ’s tallest peaks. It’s suitable for beginners, so we learn the basics of ice climbing and roping up before our summit assault and night under the stars.
Sri Lanka – we sample island life with a group of pro surfers in the Indian Ocean.
Episode 8:
Spain – our destination is the mountain range called the Baetic Cordirella on the southeast tip of Spain. We go on a trekking tour of Spain’s rugged mountain peaks in search of Moorish trails and lost valleys.
Hawaii - some of Maui’s best windsurfers show us the finest beaches and the best windsurf spots, and explain why the island is on the must-see list for all thrill seekers.
Episode 9:
Spain – you might think you know the Costa Blanca, but think again. Strike inland and you’ll find a rock-climbing nirvana where rocky crags and mountainous terrain provide challenges aplenty for beginners and experts alike.
Scotland – there’s nothing like 2 wheels and a steep mountain to put the thrill into Thrill Seeking so we’re off to the glens of south Scotland for some downhill mountain biking.
Episode 10:
Finland - we’re in frozen tundra for woodcraft and survival techniques in the forests of southern Finland.
Spain - the low-lying valley of the Jalon is our destination for some “bouldering”, a form of climbing in low places. This is a very accessible, fast growing sport ideal for trying out with your friends before hunting down the best tapas in the region.
Helsinki – Thrill Seekers Guide takes some time out in Finland’s capital.
Episode 11:
Japan - this time we’re off to the Land of The Rising Sun to find out what secrets the clouds around Mount Fuji hold for the Thrill Seeker as we go long board skateboarding down the side of this majestic peak.
New Zealand - we’re in the land of the long white cloud in the area around Queenstown on the south island, a real mecca for the white water sports enthusiast. We find a special part of the world where beauty mixes with the power of the rivers in an explosive combination for the thrill seeker as we go on jet river trips and white water sledging.
Episode 12:
Germany - Bavaria, home to the worlds best brewers, but that’s not the only reason to head to the land of the Black Forest Gateau. No way! The lakes here have surfaces like sheet glass and are perfect for wakeboarding and water-skiing, while Munich is only a short drive away to take in the beer hall festivities.
Japan – The Land of The Rising Sun is also the home of the rise and rise of adventure sports as the Japanese embrace skiing and snowboarding like no other. We tap into this extraordinary culture and take a trip out of Tokyo to nearby adrenaline nirvana. Then we see what goes on in Tokyo, from sushi bars to nightlife.
Episode 13:
Japan – We kick off in Japan with some kayaking in the Mitake area.
South Africa – In a place with some of the world’s biggest bridge spans, it’s no surprise that bungee jumping is a major fun activity. After this much of an adrenaline rush, is it really a good idea to kick back with lions and elephants? We go on safari to find out.
