PARACHILNA
After years of drought, Australian farmers,
Jane and Ross Fargher were hit by falling stock prices and a
rapidly changing economy. Finally giving up on farming, they
mortgaged their property in the outback outpost of Parachilna,
600km from the nearest city, and took over the local pub, hoping
to turn it into a tourist stop and location for filming ads,
and movies like Rabbit Proof Fence. This is an absorbing account
of their life-changing experience, which involved abandoning
the business that had supported the family for generations,
and re-inventing their relationship with the land, learning
to share it with both the traditional owners and with strangers. |
