ESSENTIAL PRAGUE

Once the home of Czech kings, Holy Roman Emperors and presidents of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic, this medieval castle is one of Prague’s most visited tourist sites.

Dominating the landscape of the city is Vysehrad Castle. Built in the 10th century, it also houses a cemetery containing the remains of many famous Czech artists such as  Antonin Dvorak, Bedrich Smetana and Karel Capek.

Located one and a half hour from Prague, this is a popular daytrip excursion. Theresienstadt  was  used and promoted  by the Nazis as a ‘model‘ concentration camp where people seemingly led a normal life. The memorial comprises original fortresses , a crematorium as well as exhibitions of some of the artwork produced at the time which portrays true life in the camp.

Located in the heart of the Jewish Quarter, the Pinkas Synagogue is dedicated to the 80.000 Jewish victims of the Holocaust from Bohemia and Moravia; their names are inscribed on the walls of the main nave and adjoining areas.

The Municipal House, a national cultural landmark, is among the most significant Art Nouveau buildings in Prague.
