Sarah CawoodChristopher Columbus first spotted the Cayman Islands in 1503 but this year it’s Sarah Cawood who’s exploring the trio of Caribbean islands. And contrary to popular belief it’s not all top notch hotels and first class beaches. Sarah gets up close and personal with the islands’ wilder side, swimming with stingray, talking to turtles and getting to grips with the largest native species, the Blue Iguana. She also finds time for some barefoot luxury on Little Cayman where she dives The Bloody Bay Wall and cooks a Caymanian conch!

GRAND CAYMAN

BOATSWAINS BEACH TURTLE FARM

This farm houses over 16,000 green turtles and is the only commercial turtle farm in the world, some as small as 6 ounces, some as big as 600 pounds! Most of the turtles are used for meat locally but some 30,000 turtles have been released into the wild to replenish native stocks.

Very little has remained of the fort which once stood overlooking the harbour in George Town. It was built in late 18th century to defend Grand Cayman from attacks by Spanish marauders from Cuba.
