Sarah Cawood

Sarah has always loved the idea of travelling but never had the chance to go backpacking as she couldn’t take time out from her strict dancing schedule. She did the usual Mediterranean family holidays growing up and has friends on both the East and West Coasts of America. She’s also travelled a little on TV, spending 3 weeks on the Gold Coast in Australia covering “I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here” for This Morning a few years back. Apart from that, Sarah’s geography is pretty limited…BUT HOPEFULLY NOT ANY MORE. She’s joined the ESSENTIAL… team.

36 years old and still botox free, Sarah Cawood grew up in a picturesque little market town in Lincolnshire called Stamford which she left at 16 to hit the bright lights of London to pursue a career in ballet at the Royal Ballet School. It was an inauspicious start: Sarah got kicked out after a year for being a bit crap, More to the point, she developed a taste for hanging out on the fringes of the burgeoning glam rock scene with desperately unsuitable men.

From there she went to The Arts Educational Schools and carried on training, eventually ending up having 3 or 4 good years in the dancing world, culminating in a stint in Phantom of the Opera in London’s West End. It was after leaving Phantom that she found herself in the right place at the right time and landed a job as a continuity presenter on then fledgling cable TV channel Nickelodeon. Sarah’s worked in the land of television programming for about 13 years.

It’s been a long and varied journey taking in “yoof” TV (The Girlie Show), “kids” TV (Live and Kicking) legendary shows of yore (Top of the Pops) and loads of frankly forgettable stuff in between. If you’re really interested in viewing the entire CV you can find it at www.sarahcawood.co.uk.

It has taken Sarah over a decade to land her dream job. This is it! Travelling the world to far flung destinations I would never otherwise have the opportunity to visit and GETTING PAID FOR IT! Try not to hate me: we do actually work quite hard when we’re away filming. She hopes you’re all enjoying watching the ESSENTIAL… series as much as she’s enjoying making it.
