Being a television presenter means that occasionally if you’re not stuck in a tiny studio with hot lamps shining down on you melting your make-up, you get the opportunity to travel! And I’m lucky enough to be one of the band of presenters hosting ESSENTIAL…

I have also had great experiences on an Irish science show, Scope, which I presented for 3 years. That took me to Japan, Washington, New York, Los Angeles, Switzerland, Iceland, Germany, The Canary Islands, Belgium and all over the UK. I have ‘talked’ to the most sophisticated robots known to man, stood inside the ‘black hole’ Particle Accelerator in Cern, stood on top of one of the most potentially destructive volcanoes in the world, and biked against extreme sports champions at the World X Games. Yeah it’s been interesting!

BIOGRAPHY

Danann Breathnach is an award winning director/ producer.

His latest film, Foireann Codladh (Team Sleep), a £60,000 Irish Film Board funded short has picked up numerous awards & selections since its premiere, this October, at the Cork International Film Festival 2008.
His previous short Dark. Bright. Red., is also a multi award winner and is distributed by Shorts International worldwide.
As a director Danann has worked & dealt with, among others: Irish Film Board - Newgrange Pictures - British Director's Guild - IWC Media - Channel 4 - Film 4 - 555 Pop Promos - UK Film Council - Tower Hamlets and Hackney Film Fund - Galway Film Centre/ RTE - Cork Film Centre/ RTE - BT2 Fashion Outlet - Jobs.ie.
Danann is also a TV presenter & actor having been seen on: MTV Select - Fame Academy, Celebrity Fame Academy - The Friday Night Project – Hollyoaks - Most Annoying Celebrity Couples/ Songs/ TV Shows - Pepsi Max Downloaded - Travel Channel - Today On 3 Live - No Experience Required - Scope - BBC's Wannabes, among other shows.
Currently in preproduction on Oxide and Neutrino's latest single Know You, Danann has shot promos for prestigious Dublin fashion outlet, BT2 and directed numerous music videos for bands such as London Indie/Hip Hop outfit The Mavs, alternative US rock gods Isis and spoof band, The Finnish People. He was recently shortlisted to direct the promo for UNKLE's single, Restless.
Danann is well knowledged in Sony Z1, Sony PD150 and Panasonic DVX 100 cameras, Final Cut Pro and Photoshop. He has studied Film & Video Production, Graphic Media Design, Irish Folklore and English Literature.
Danann is currently working with the Travel Channel, RTE and BBC 3 and is developing his first feature film with Old Hat Productions.

LOOKING FORWARD TO

I’m looking forward to setting off with the Travel Channel on many adventures over the next year. Hopefully to a sunny place or two! But traveling around the globe isn’t just about the sites you see, it’s also about the experiences you share and to date I’ve been lucky enough that the crews I have traveled with have not only been great fun, but interested in getting the most one can get out of the journey. That guarantees an experience to remember, no matter what comes your way (and believe me, making a television show means a lot of obstacles come your way!). I hope that some of that energy and interest comes across on the show and the audience enjoys the ride.
