Episode 1: Yatra S1- Agra, Kerala, Goa and Melas

Culture Quest takes us to the state of Uttar Pradesh, a land where India's chequered history is still alive in its myriad architectural marvels, including the amazing Taj Mahal at Agra. Adventure Trail features the Western Ghats, mountain ranges which form the three most important forest reserves and sanctuaries: the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, the Bandipur National Park and the Wynad Reserve. Leisure Zone explores Goa, famous for its wonderful beaches and Portuguese-inspired culture. Incredible India focuses on some of the country's numerous fairs and festivals, including the Aoling, a traditional spring dance festival celebrated by the Nagas of Nagaland

 

Episode 2: Lucknow

Today's programme takes us to Lucknow, the capital of the state of Uttar Pradesh, a centre of devout Muslim tradition harking back to the Nawabi era. We visit the tiny Himalayan state of Sikkim, one of the newer states in India, and as recently as 1975 an independent Buddhist kingdom. Our adventure trail features the western state of Rajasthan, where the forest surrounding the Ranthambhore fort provides an idyllic backdrop to an adventure safari

 

Episode 3: Varanasi and Dharamshala

Culture Quest features Uttar Pradesh, the seat of Hinduism and home of the holy city of Varanasi on the banks of the Ganges. Leisure Zone takes us to Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh, the 'land of eternal snow peaks', famous for its magnificent scenery and as the home of the Dalai Lama. Adventure Trail explores the amazing Lakshadweep islands, a coral archipelago in the Arabian Sea popular with snorkellers and divers. Incredible India looks at the country's wide variety of architecture, including the world famous Taj Mahal in Agra, built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz

 

Episode 4: Tamil Nadu, Meghalaya & Project Tiger

Culture Quest takes us to India's southern province of Tamil Nadu on the Bay of Bengal, famous for its tropical climate, cooler hill resorts, magnificent temples, friendly inhabitants and music/dance traditions. Adventure Trail features the picturesque state of Himachal Pradesh in the Himalayas, where the awe-inspiring Beas River flows through the Kullu Valley providing opportunities for white water rafting, kayaking and canoeing. Leisure Zone explores Meghalaya, the beautiful 'Land of the Clouds' between Assam and Bangladesh. Incredible India focuses on the fight to save the majestic Indian tiger and includes stunning footage of some of the country's national reserves

 

Episode 5: Jodhpur, Ooty & Backwater Races

Culture Quest focuses on the western Indian desert state of Rajasthan, an historic Land of Kings, which retains its distinctive identity, unparalleled history, vibrant culture and dramatic grace. Adventure Trail explores Madhya Pradesh, often referred to as the core of India and home to a variety of tourist attractions, including Kanha and Bandhavgarh National Parks. Leisure Zone takes us to India's southern coastline, dotted with amazing beaches, coffee plantations and quaint hill station hideaways. Incredible India features everything from skiing in the Himalayas to camel safaris and sand dune bashing in the deserts of India

 

Episode 6: Rajasthan, Ladakh & Asian Elephants

Culture Quest focuses on the colourful state of Rajasthan famous for its peacocks, tigers, stirring ballads and magnificent citadels. Adventure Trail explores the natural splendour of the twin valleys of Lahaul and Spiti, surrounded by the Kullu valley in the south, Ladakh in the north and Tibet in the east. Leisure Zone takes us to Kerala, a coastal state on the southwestern tip of India, the perfect blend of culture and nature, nestling between the infinite waters of the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats. Incredible India tells the story of how efforts are being made to protect the habitat of the Asian elephants

 

Episode 7: Pushkar, Kerala, Ganga & Ladakh

Culture Quest travels to the northwestern frontiers of India and to Pushkar, the 'lake of flowers', sacred since the dawn of time and enshrining the memory of a great sacrifice conducted here by Brahma, the creator in the Hindu holy trinity. Leisure Zone features Kerala on the southwest spice coast of India, celebrated as 'Magical Malabar'. Adventure Trail takes us rapid rafting down the Ganges, India's holiest river, to Rishikesh, an ancient pilgrimage town also famous as the yoga capital of the world. Incredible India focuses on Ladakh, the world's last Shangri-la, a high-altitude desert between the Himalayas and the Karakoram Mountains

 

Episode 8: Rajasthan & Himachal Pradesh

Today, our Culture Quest takes us to fabled Rajasthan, almost every tourist's dream destination in India, and its bustling capital, Jaipur. Leisure Zone focuses on the land of eternal snow peaks, Himachal Pradesh, and its capital, Shimla, located at an altitude of 2100 metres. Adventure Trail has a treat for birdwatchers, with a visit to the Bharatpur wild life sanctuary in Rajasthan. We also explore the tribal culture, which blooms in the isolated highlands and forests of India, with nearly 7% of its population sustaining their traditional customs

 

Episode 9: Andhra Pradesh, Manali & Rajasthan

We head to the heart of India's Deccan plateau and the state of Andhra Pradesh, with its extensive coastline and dense forests that stretch along the Bay of Bengal. We look at India's wide choice of daring and exotic adventure sports, and focus on Rajasthan, a kingdom of magnificent palaces, majestic forts and havilies, which are today accessible to tourists as luxury hotels. We also ride the rails on some of India's most romantic train routes, including the Darjeeling hill railway, which offers spectacular views of the Himalayas

 

Episode 10: Madhya, W.Bengal & Luxury Train Journeys

Today we head to Madhya Pradesh, with its exquisite temples, forts and palaces, and its exciting panorama of wildlife, rivers and waterfalls. We visit West Bengal, one of the country's most vibrant and culturally rich states and look at Kerala in southern India, famous for its beautiful beaches and traditional ayurvedic massages. We also look at the Palace on Wheels, one of the ten most luxurious train rides in the world, which takes passengers from New Delhi on an 8-day trip through the former Rajput kingdoms of Rajasthan, Northern India

 

Episode 11: Gwalior & Bhutan

Today, we head for Madhya Pradesh, often called "the Heart of India", and search for adventure in the state of Uttaranchal, one of the most enchanting regions in North India. There's a feature on the land of the dawn lit mountains, the north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh and a profile of Gaj Singh II, the thirty-eighth Rathore head of Jodhpur, the largest princely state in Rajasthan

 

Episode 12: Orissa & Karnataka

Magazine style show travelling the length and breadth of India discovering its incredible scenery, spiritual backbone and rich culture. Today we visit Orissa on the East Coast of India, abundant in natural beauty, exquisite temple architecture, rich art and culture. We head for the southern state of Karnataka, sandwiched between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats and look at the stark, rugged, dramatic landscapes of Ladakh, situated in the northern state of Jammu & Kashmir. We also visit the north-east state of Arunachal Pradesh, home of the Apatani, who live in villages of clustered bamboo huts

 

Episode 13: Kerala, Bay of Bengal & Indian Dancing

Magazine style show travelling the length and breadth of India discovering its incredible scenery, spiritual backbone and rich culture. Today we visit the southern state of Kerala, situated between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats. We enjoy an adventure on the Andaman and Nicobar islands in the Bay of Bengal, situated 1000km off the east coast of India. We explore the hilly regions of Kumaon and Garhwal, which combine to form the state of Uttaranchal, one of the newest states of India, and we look at the Indian dance tradition, which includes a myriad range of dance forms from classical to folk
