Episode 1: Carlos In Chile

Carlos Villanueva, a Chilean-born Australian, returns to the country of his birth for the first time in 13 years. With his Australian-born wife, Wendy, and his three children, Carlos visits his family and friends and explores Chile's rich musical heritage.

 

Episode 2: My Heritage

Carlos Villanueva explores the rich musical traditions of the country of his birth with his childhood friend, Pancho. As he does so he gains valuable insight into what it means to be Chilean.

 

Episode 3: Carnival Time

Cristina Dio, a Uruguayan-born Australian music journalist, returns to the country of her birth during Carnaval to visit her grandmother and explore her passion for South American music.

 

Episode 4: Rhythm In the Streets

Cristina Dio continues to explore her passion for South American music. It is Carnaval time in Rio de Janiero and the streets are alive with the sound of music!

 

Episode 5: Northern India

Bobby Singh, Australia's foremost tabla player, travels to the Punjab to visit his family and to explore the rich musical heritage of northern India. He has heard that many old traditional music forms are dying out but Bobby wants to find out for himself.

 

Episode 6: Fusion and Friends

With his best friend in Australia, Bobby Singh travels to India to study with his teacher and to perform at concerts with two of India's foremost musicians.

 

Episode 7: Southern Chile - Joyas Del Sur

Carlos Villanueva travels to the south of Chile with his childhood friend, Pancho, to explore the rich musical traditions of the country of his birth. As he falls in love with Chile again he thinks about returning to Chile to live.

 

Episode 8: El Corazon De Los Andes

Carlos explores the rich musical traditions of the Chilean and Bolivian Andes. His musical journey through Chile has made Carlos realise that he is, deep in his soul, a Chilean who happens to live in Australia.

 

Episode 9: Santiago De Cuba

Cristina Dio's musical journey into the heart of South American music has brought her to Santiago de Cuba where she discovers a "treasure trove of music" which reflects the multiple influences that have made Cuban music famous worldwide.

 

Episode 10: Pumping Heart Of Latin Music

Cristina Dio's travels in Cuba end in Havana, the "pumping heart of Latin music". It is here that the cha cha cha was born and where Compay Segundo's band, made famous in Buena Vista Social Club, still plays.
